Orderly docs

Technical guidance for a structured workflow.

Orderly is a controlled file workflow system for Windows. Review proposed changes, save repeatable profiles, launch workflows from Explorer or watched folders, and undo a session if you need to roll it back.

Installation

Jump link

Download and install Orderly on Windows. Core organization runs locally and does not require an account.

  1. 01Download the installer from the Releases page or itch.io.
  2. 02Run the installer and follow the setup wizard.
  3. 03Launch Orderly and select a folder to run your first preview.
Orderly is local-first. Core file organization runs on-device with no account requirement. Optional update checks, crash reporting, and support or diagnostics submissions can use the network when enabled or intentionally triggered.

Core workflow

Jump link

Start from a folder or profile, review the plan, then run or undo on demand.

  • Start from the main window or launch a workflow from Windows Explorer.
  • Orderly analyzes the folder and shows a full preview of what will change.
  • Review the preview, adjust category rules if needed, and save the setup as a profile when it should be reused.
  • Run the session when it looks right, then click Undo if the folder needs to return to its previous state.

Profiles

Jump link

Save reusable organization setups as profiles for folders you clean regularly.

  • Create a named profile for any folder or workflow type.
  • Each profile stores category rules, exclusions, destination settings, and automation preferences.
  • Apply a saved profile with one click for consistent results every time.

Windows Explorer integration

Jump link

Right-click a folder in Windows Explorer to start or manage an Orderly workflow directly.

  • Available actions: Preview, Run now, Undo last run, Watch, Auto-apply, Open Orderly, Settings.
  • Use Explorer as a fast entry point into the same profiles, safeguards, and history you see in the app.
  • Integration installs during setup and is available after first launch.

Folder watching & auto-apply

Jump link

Orderly can watch selected folders and apply saved workflows to new files when you enable that behavior.

  • Enable folder watching to monitor a path for new files in the background.
  • Use auto-apply with a saved profile when that folder should run automatically after new files arrive.
  • Pause or resume watched workflows from the system tray without rewriting the profile.
Folder watching and auto-apply are opt-in. Orderly does not run background automation unless you configure it for a specific workflow.

System tray mode

Jump link

Keep recurring workflows within reach without leaving the main window open.

  • Orderly can stay available in the Windows system tray for watched folders and recurring workflow access.
  • Use the tray to reopen the app, pause watching, or stay close to active folder workflows.
  • Tray mode is part of the same workflow system; it does not bypass previews, profiles, or undo.

Diagnostics & troubleshooting

Jump link

Orderly includes built-in tools for logs, system info, diagnostics export, and issue reporting.

  • Open logs to review the full history of runs, watching events, and errors.
  • Copy system information for fast issue reproduction.
  • Export a diagnostics ZIP or send a report directly from within the app when you want support context.
Diagnostics stay local until you choose to export them or send them. Optional crash reporting and update checks are separate from the core organization workflow.
